ç®±æ ¹ Hakone Pilgrimage
Follow the journey of the Ancient Monk Mangan. The journey culminates in Saijoji temple famous for its mysterious Tengu's. The day starts and finishes at Odawara and is ideal for those visiting Hakone for a day. This is a full day hike uses a private vehicle to make the most of your time. Includes lunch, bus and train back to Odawara station at the end of the day.

Hakone Pilgrimage Overview
8:00 Meet at Odawara station at 8:00AM The journey takes only 33 minutes from Tokyo station. From here we will have a short chance to organize ourselves before we hop in the car to the start of our hike only 30 minutes away.
8:40 Our hike begins from a trail nearby the town of Gora and runs up into the mountains walked by Monk Mangan, Expect quiet streams, shaded paths and views on Hakone's centeral mountain on the way up. Some places include rocks to scramble up as we go.
12:00 We summit at our high point for the day of 1090m at myojingatake, on a clear day we are treated to a stunning view of Mt. Fuji as well as other surrounding mountains to our east and to our west the Pacific Ocean and Tokyo.
3:30 Here we will reach the end of our walk for the day in the Temple of Saijoji. A buddhist temple known for Japan's legendary tengu and their giant shoes. We will learn about some temple legends as well as taking time to enjoy the peace and quiet of the temple itself.
4:30 Here we will begin our transfer back to Odawara station. For those with energy the walk down to the train station is filled with hidden statues and little gardens, there is also a regular bus before hoping on the rural local train to bring us back to Odawara.
5:30-6:00 Arriving at Odawara we will finish our hiking for the day as you return to Tokyo or on to Kyoto via the Tokaido Shinkansen.
Details
The trip cost a total of 60,000 JPY for up to two people. For every additional person there is an extra charge of 5000 JPY to cover lunch's and train fares.

Some costs such as extra snacks and drinks, and extras such as shrine stamps are not included.

In addition it is best to have extra cash incase you with to pray or purchase omamori at the shrine.
What to bring
​You will need some trail running or hiking shoes as well as hiking clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Some sections of this walk are slippery so regular sneakers are unacceptable.
Some drinks and snacks in a backpack you don't mind getting dirty.

Suitable rain wear and an extra warm layer. If you do not have these please let us know in advance. You may be able to borrow.

We will not return to the car and as such you will need to store your luggage at the station which has plenty of space to do so.
Who is this trip for?
This trip is for those who want a good walking day out, aim to enjoy the Japanese mountain in quiet and optionally are curious about Buddhism. To take on this trip you will need to be fit and healthy as well as be comfortable walking up to 10km and climbing 800m.
