Kintoki Hiking and Onsen Overview
This Hakone Hiking Tour gets us back to what Hakone is all about. Hiking in beautiful Japanese mountain, seeing hidden temples and shrines, some of Japan's best Onsen's and hopefully a view of Mt. Fuji.
9:00 AM- Meet at Hakone Yumoto Station, the easiest spot to meet is just in front of the souvenir store. If you are already staying in Hakone pick up is also available from your hotel.

Getting to Hakone Yumoto station is most easily done by getting the 7:20 train direct from shinjuku staiton.

9:30 Drive by private vehicle to the start of our hike of the famous Mt. Kintoki. The hike from here takes us up to 1212m with a climb of around 500m. At the summit of the hike we are greeted view of Japan's highest mountain (fuj) on clear days.. The climb is around 1hour 40 minutes and take us past view point where we can see Owakudani, lake Ashi, Gora, and The pacific ocean.

12:00 Enjoy a locally prepared bento at the summit Mt. Kintoki. The bento changes from day to day but is traditional and delicious. We can spend a bit of time here enjoying the view and chatting about the ancient myth of Kintaro. On wet days we might choose to go inside the mountain hut and try the famous curry udon.

1:00 Start our descent of the mountain, the route is round and so we pass through a different trail on the way down. This trail overlooks fields of thin Japanese bamboo and we can see all the way down to the ocean. This trail does have steps so isn't recommended for those with knee or back issues.
3:00 Arrive at the bottom of the mountain tired but happy. We will take a moment to buy an extra drink or snack if we want before taking a short detour to a hidden Buddhist temple in the area. It is famous for housing over 300 individually carved buddha's, each one different and unique. Stroll the hill side and look at these individuals. It's fun to imagine their stories and lives.

3:30 Following our shrine visit it is a 10 minute drive to a local and stunning onsen. The onsen trip is optional but is strongly recommended having a beautiful outside baths it's a prefect way to relax.
4:30 Here again we will transfer back to your hotel or Hakone Yumoto station.

5:00 Our tour will finish here for the day. For those who are looking to go on to Kyoto or Osaka it's a simple journey by train to Odawara and then Bullet train to your next destination. For other drop off to your local hotel is also available.

While we have our core itinerary Hakone is famous for it's cherry blossoms and its autumn colors. Your guide may suggests and change to the plan in order to see the best colors on the day. These hikes will aim to be at the same level and the principals of the tour will remain the same. There will still be a hike, an Onsen and an extra small side activity.

An example of an autumn itinerary may be Pick up & Transfer ---> Hike lower elevation for better autumn leaves (still with fuji view) ---> Visit fields of local grasses (very popular) ---> Visit a local Onsen before finishing our day.
